Baku, Azerbaijan: Day 17
Drove through the night. Found fellow Ralliers lost in moonlit wasteland. Sped along six-lane highway with bus stops and a secret Olympic village. Plugged along the gutted roads of Sulphur swamps. Waited for sheep herders to pass at sunrise. Slept an hour atop a mountain buzzing with grasshoppers. Woke and followed a dark brown playa to Baku. Met Rally folks and camped out with truckers at the docks, waited for Caspian Sea ferry.

08-01-07 at 17:53 – Baku tonight, Ferry Land tomorrow
Baku – so sorry 4 dead air, cell battery died but is now OK. Met up with teams after driving thru swamps, mtns, & deserts. Hostel tonight & waiting in Ferry Land (purgatory) tomorrow. Looking forward in a change of livestock across the Caspian. Not sure what cell service will b like when we cross. Hello to our new Azeri friends!

Allegedly the tix 4 the ferry to Turkmenistan go on sale at midnight. So we’re off for a shower & then coming back & hopefully moving on!
