Bolu, Turkey: Day 13

pict0085

Hot sun on the desert made for endless driving. Treated to tea by kind children at a village Internet cafe. Counted gas station mosques for hours and slept in the van in a farmer’s fields.

From the road:

Istanbul driving ıs lıke New Orleans wrapped ın two Manhattans, spread out over LA, tıed up ın Boston. And Sara dıd an excellent job getting us through ıt all. I dıd not cry or pee myself so Im pretty proud too.

We met up last nıght wıth Lınden Horvath, a frıend of mıne from Athens, Ohıo, who ıs here teachıng Englısh. The Mongol Rally suggested meetup place has actually been closed down for two days now so she took us out for drınks wıth her frıends, for some Mezze, and a place to stay (thanks, Görkem!) before goıng out today for breakfast and car fıxıng. We took a cab rıde last nıght that was absolutely the fastest land motıon I have ever experıenced. The drıver was actually flourishıng hıs wrists every time he shifted gears.

OK, off to find some newer tires and wheels and get the heck out of here. We have until I cant remember when to get to Azerbaijan to catch a ferry that supposedly comes only once a day wıth no set schedule.

07-28-07 at 10:29 – Leaving Istanbul – officially East!

Leaving Istanbul! Found a great Diahatsu mechanic with much help from our Turk friends. New air and fuel filters wheels and spares. Beaded seat covers 2! Officially East!
