Transylvanian Mountain Pass: Day 10

Shown great hospitality by Hope and Homes for Children. Met with Romanian press. Night brought horrors — acres of fire in Raul Sebus, batty truckers careening atop the Transylvanian alps. Sought refuge in the parking lot of a crusty gypsy tavern.
From the road:
07-26-07 at 23:20 – SMS Post
Just got up in Baia Mare after a muggy in our non-a/c room. Off 2 Hope & Homes, get oil change, look for tires.
07-26-07 at 6:07 – Internet, New Fluids
Just got back from the Baia Mare garage where the Matthew Fox look-a-like mechanic checked us out, solved our over-heating problem (for now), and let Sara take a snapshot (sheesh). Adi from Hope and Homes for Children translated everything and showed us around Baia Mare – unbelievable good luck meeting him. Also, people are starting to sign the car which is definitely a fun activity.
Stephan, Reika, and Otto (sorry for misspellings!) took us to lunch and we received a fascinating briefing about all the work HHC has done deinstutionalizing Romanian counties, expanding to other countries – pretty incredible.
Baia Mare is beautiful, the people are great, and we’re getting ready for our press conference with the media. I never shaved!
7/26 at 15:12 – Romanian press conference & biggest log pile
Baia Mare press conference went well, tried to toot the horn 4 HHC. Had a few minutes 2 chat w/ the other teams. Currently eating dinner @ a Transyvanian truck stop @ 1am. Ready to camp after crawling thru Raul Sebes, home of Romania’s largest trash fire & the world’s largest log pile. About 230 km from Bucharest. But, by the way, Romania is still the prettiest we’ve seen.
